A real example, start to finish
Most JPGs come from a phone. A child's drawing on the fridge, a sketch in a notebook, a sign you lettered by hand: you take a picture, and that JPG is what you have. It has uneven light, paper texture and a soft shadow, none of which should be sewn.
BobbinBot takes that JPG and finds the drawing in it. It drops the paper, evens out the light, keeps the lines, and writes a PES for your Brother or Baby Lock with satin stitches along the strokes. The example below is a phone-style picture of a pen drawing, shadow and all.
A phone picture of a pen drawing of a cat's face on paper, with uneven light.
A real run of the engine on this picture. The stitched picture is a simulation, not a photo of thread.
What the verdict said about this picture
- Some stitches are shorter than half a millimetre. They can jam.
Three steps
- 1 Take or pick the JPG
Shoot the drawing straight on, in daylight, filling the frame. Thick pen or marker lines work far better than pencil. Pick the item you are sewing on.
- 2 See what was kept
The cleaned picture shows exactly which lines and colors will be sewn, next to the original. The stitch simulation and the verdict come with it.
- 3 Load the PES
Sign in with your email and download. Put the PES on a USB stick or send it with your machine's app, and load it like any design.
Pictures that work, and ones that don't
Thread sews flat color in shapes that need room. The verdict checks this for you, but it helps to start with the right picture.
Sews well
- Drawings in thick pen, marker or paint, photographed straight on
- Children's drawings with bold lines and a few colors
- Hand lettering with strokes at least a couple of millimetres wide when sewn
- Even daylight, with no shadow of the phone across the page
Not a good fit
- Light pencil lines: they are too faint and too thin to stitch
- Pictures taken at an angle: the drawing comes out skewed
- Photos of people or pets: the shading turns to blocks, so expect a yellow or a red
- Pictures of art that belongs to someone else

Upload the JPG here, choose the item and your machine, and BobbinBot cleans and digitizes it into a PES. You see a verdict before you pay, and the first design is free.
Can I turn my child's drawing into embroidery?
Yes, and bold drawings sew well. Take the picture straight on in daylight. Thick marker lines and a few colors give the best result; light pencil does not stitch.
Why do I see the paper texture in my design?
You should not: the cleanup drops the paper and the light falling across it. If a shadow is very dark, it can be read as part of the drawing, so retake the picture in even light.
Which Brother machines read PES?
Brother and Baby Lock home embroidery machines read PES. The machine finder lists the hoops and formats for the models we know from the makers' specs.
Can I convert JPG to PES without software?
Yes. Everything happens in the browser. You only need the machine's usual way of loading designs, such as a USB stick.
My design got a yellow verdict. What now?
