A real example, start to finish
A logo looks simple until you sew it. The thin line under the name, the small tagline, the outline around the badge: on screen they are fine, and at 90 mm across a chest they are a fraction of a millimetre wide. Logo digitizing is mostly deciding what to keep, what to thicken and what to drop.
BobbinBot digitizes your logo for the item you sew it on. It sizes the design for a left chest, a cap front or a bag, picks satin stitches for lettering and fills for larger shapes, and measures everything against what thread can hold. If the tagline is too small to sew, the verdict says so before you pay, rather than after your first shirt.

A real run of the engine on this picture. The stitched picture is a simulation, not a photo of thread.
What the verdict said about this picture
- Some stitches are shorter than half a millimetre. They can jam.
Three steps
- 1 Upload your logo
The original file is best: a PNG export from your designer, or the largest JPG you have. Pick the item: a polo, a cap, a hoodie, a tote bag.
- 2 Read the verdict
See the simulation, the stitch count and the size. If text or lines are too thin for that size, the verdict names them and suggests a larger size or a simpler version.
- 3 Sew a test, then the order
Download the file for your machine and the sew-out kit with a test patch. Sew the patch on scrap fabric first, then run the real pieces.
Pictures that work, and ones that don't
Thread sews flat color in shapes that need room. The verdict checks this for you, but it helps to start with the right picture.
Sews well
- Logos with two to six solid colors
- A version of the logo without the tagline for small sizes
- Lettering at least about 5 mm tall at the size you sew
- A PNG export straight from the design file
Not a good fit
- Logos with gradients, glows or shadows: they stitch as flat bands, so expect yellow or red
- Taglines and fine print that end up under 5 mm tall
- Hairline outlines and very thin rules
- Logos you do not own or have permission to use
Your machine, its format
Pick your machine in the form and its format comes first. Each brand usually reads:
- Brother: PES
- Baby Lock: PES
- Janome: JEF
- Bernina: EXP
- Husqvarna Viking: VP3
- Pfaff: VP3
- Singer: XXX
Files for your machine or a shop
If you sew yourself, pick your machine and its format comes first. If a shop will sew your logo, they usually ask for DST, which is in every download along with PES, JEF, EXP, VP3 and the rest.
The sew-out kit lists each thread color in sewing order, which is what a shop needs to match your colors.
Convert a stitch file to another format, freeHow much does logo digitizing cost?
Your first design is free. After that, a design costs one credit, from packs starting at the price on the pricing page. You see the result and the verdict before you spend a credit.
What size should a left chest logo be?
Usually 75 to 100 mm wide. Pick the polo or T-shirt in the form and the design starts at a usual left chest size, which you can change.
Can I use the file for a cap?
Yes. Pick the cap, and the design is sized for a cap front with the stitch settings suited to it. Caps need a cap frame or a machine that sews them.
Will small text in my logo sew?
Text under about 5 mm tall usually does not sew cleanly. The verdict flags it, and the usual fix is a larger design or a version without the tagline.
Can a shop sew the file?
Yes. Shops usually want DST, which is in every download, and the sew-out kit lists the thread colors in order.
Is software better than a person for my logo?
For a complex logo, a skilled digitizer will still do better. BobbinBot gets you a file you can judge before you pay and sew the same day.
Can I sell items with my logo stitched on?
Yes, if the logo is yours. The stitch file is yours to sew and to sell on physical items.
