VP3 file viewer

Drop a VP3 file to see the stitches, the thread colors and the size before it goes on your Husqvarna Viking or Pfaff machine.

VP3 is the file Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff embroidery machines read. Unlike DST or EXP, a VP3 keeps its thread colors with names, so a viewer can show the design in the colors it was made with.

This viewer shows those colors, the stitch count and the real size in millimetres. It keeps nothing, so you can check a design you are about to buy or one a friend sent. Our example below is the same design as the other viewers, saved as VP3, with its colors intact. It is also a quick way to make sure a file really is a VP3 before you pay for a design or copy it to your machine.

Getting a VP3 file onto the machine

  1. Check it here first. Open the VP3 and check the size against your hoop. Leave a little room on each side.
  2. Copy it to a USB stick. Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff machines read designs from a USB stick. Some models also take them from the maker's app.
  3. Pick it on the machine. Plug in the stick, open the design on the screen and thread the colors in the order this viewer lists.

Common problems with VP3 files

The machine says the design is too big

It does not fit the hoop the machine has selected. Check the size here and pick a bigger hoop, or make the design smaller before saving.

The colors do not match your threads

VP3 keeps the colors it was made with. If your threads are another brand, use the list here to pick the nearest ones.

The file came zipped

Unzip it on your computer first, then open the .vp3 here.

Thread breaks in one spot

Very dense spots or tiny stitches cause it. The free checker finds tiny stitches and long jumps and writes a fixed copy.

The design sews in the wrong order

A VP3 keeps the sewing order of its colors. Thread the machine in the order this viewer lists, not by shade, or the machine will stop for colors you have already used.

Questions

How do I open a VP3 file?

Drop it into the viewer on this page. It shows the stitches, thread colors and size in your browser, free and without software.

Which machines use VP3 files?

Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff embroidery machines, such as the Designer Topaz 50 and the Pfaff creative 1.5 on our machine list.

Does VP3 keep the thread colors?

Yes. Our sample shows the same thread names in VP3 as in PES.

Can I turn a VP3 into a PES or DST?

Yes, with the free converter. The stitches stay the same.

Can I view a VP3 on a tablet?

Yes. The viewer works in a tablet or phone browser. Pick the file from your files or downloads.

Is VP3 the same as VIP or HUS?

No. VIP and HUS are older Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff formats. This viewer does not read them; VP3 is the format current machines use, and the one the converter writes.
